The world of a chronic illlness
Running down the busy streets of the city, thats where i want to be. Instead im dreaming of all the things i want to do from my couch. My world consists of my house, the hospital, trips to the grocery store or the mall. currently my world is rather simple and repetitive, and in all honesty, repetitiveness drives me crazy. I prefer a random and unplanned adventurous world but im making due with what i have. I am always staring at the calendar in my phone hoping something new and excited will pop up, unfortunately in the world of a chronic illness, my calendar is full of doctors appointments, IV's at the hospital and when prescriptions need to be filled but a girl can dream. The other week i had someone ask me a question i havent been asked in a long time, "what do you do for yourself during the week ?" now in context this was meant kindly and not to be rude. However i felt this was a good question to share my answer to. Here it is...
In a typical week what do i do for myself ? (meaning what do i do instead of sit on my ass all day) well i start by waking up everyday trying to muster up the energy to get ready and look semi-decent, (at least not look as rough as i feel) then i sit and ponder what i am going to eat for breakfast, why, because if i make a wrong choice now, then the rest of the day will be filled nausea and anger towards food ( I do however love food)
After eating, i weigh out my options for what i WANT to do and what i CAN do (two very different things). People refer to this as the spoon theory, you have so many spoons in a day and certain tasks use more spoons. (you get the point). If im lucky and feel well i go out. I hate to break it to ya, but a lot of the time i dont. So my day is spent, on the computer, and sitting and doing everyday tasks like, cooking, laundry, organizing stuff of that sort. so yes i spend more time sitting than i do going out but guess what.. thats okay !
I am completely aware that my life to some people is "lazy" but i do as much as i can while trying to be well enough to "survive"(a little dramatic), but that is my life with a chronic illness and i am trying my best and my best is much different than other peoples but that is just fine to me.
