Wisdom in unexpected places
I found myself observing the world and listening, i wouldnt call it writers block, i was just waiting for something that i had to talk about. rarely do we take time in life to stop and look at the world around us and how even though we take a moment from the hustle and bustle everyone else can seem like they are moving faster than we thought we were. I knew we all had our story and everyone was connected in some way but until i stopped and looked around i realized it easier to really see someone than i thought. society unfortunately doesnt have the time to stop for a moment, i grew up hearing the saying " dont judge a book by the cover, read whats inside", I took the time to read into that saying andi put my theory to the test. i sat in the IV clinic one day and i sat there and observed and i listened. to my left was this gentleman, I could see he didnt look the healthiest but he a unique composer about him. After a little while he turned to me and asked what brings my young here. i giggle and continued to tell him a bit about myself. after being asked a couple questions he proceeds to tell me a story i would of never predicted. one day he collapsed from a heart attack and was bad enough that he had to kept alive by machines. it didnt look good for him but luck struck and they found him a new heart. I was surprised and curious to see where his story goes. He lokos at me and say a nurse came and asked him a question, he was very drugged up still and rather out of it but to his surprise the nurse asked how he was liking his new heart. He started laughing and said he had no idea he had gotten a new heart. we shared a laugh and he was there getting anti rejection meds. he wouldnt say how old he was but that he has always looked alot younger than he was. I was amazed that taking a few minutes to listen could bring such an amazing story and the chance to meet someone that i wont ever forget. In life we face things you could never imagine but i never imagined that if you take the time people will a mark on you and you will gain inspiration from someones story you could never guess they had. I also met a lady an extremely strong lady that pushed me to be stronger. Again i was sitting in the Iv clinic and an elderly lady came in and sat down, she said the lab couldnt get blood from her so came to see the nurse so they could get blood from her PIC line ( a long little tube the goes from your arm thru a vein to your heart, usually when you have no longer have veins that can support an iv).
this lady turned to me and asked why i was there, i said i had a chronic illness, she then said to me " i have leukemia and im going to die soon" i looked into her eyes and i had no idea what to say to her. i knew i couldnt say sorry to hear that because i knew i wouldnt want someone to feel sorry for me when im going thru hell. we talked for a bit and i felt truly blessed to feel the same way about one thing we are both going thru, and that was no matter how much it sucks or how bad you feel you have to learn to laugh about it. We shared a laugh together that day and i looked and her and told her i can tell your a very strong lady. I am truly appreciative that life has humbled me in a way i would of never guessed. I learned you dont have to understand what someone is going thru or try to put yourself in their shoes, you just have to take the time to listen, truly listen. hear what their story is then respect it for what it is, not try and understand because frankly we might not understand and that is okay. I truly felt that the couple things her and i both could relate to brought a unique comfort. knowing that we have different stories but there were somethings that connected our experiences, life never fails to teach us something.
God Bless,
Hannah
